did you mean you 'Can't disprove or prove?
if so by definition that statement says, ghost dont exist! if you can neither prove or disprove something, by modern thinking it would mean it doesnt exist, ghosts can not at this moment in time be conclusively proved to be real, there is phenomenon that presents itself to us and is recorded on scientific equipment, i.e. EMF metres, thermometres, cameras, infared, gigercounters etc. and it is true that a large amount of times these things are recorded, that they are due to explainable phenomenon, i.e, electrical disturbance, faulty heating, poorly maintained cameras, subsidence in a property, old floorboards, dust, even the human element can be blamed, paranoia, group hysteria, health issues (particularly eyes) mostly because ppl see what they want to see.
but for each of these times there can be a time that nothing can explain, no reason for an EMF metre spikeing suddenly no where near electrical equipment, random cold spots etc. capturing orbs on film.
so perhaps the theory should concentrate more on what might 'ghosts' as we call them actually be? psychic impressions, spirit activity, a form of precognition, hallucination/day dream/wakeing nightmare. is seeinga ghost in a dark old house something that is real, or what we expect to see due to pop cultures definition? arent we just as likely to find them in a new house during the day? this can be both a fore and against argument for the existence of ghosts/spirits.
these are the things we need to look at, what are they, why do they happen.
to simply define a phenomenom as a ghost is too simple, there are many definitions of ghosts and supposed different kinds.
for me they [ghosts] represent a dilemma. if ghosts are real does that mean there is life after death? in a heaven or hell senario or does it mean that there is a higher level of conciousness? or do some of us stay here and some move on?
until someone brings conclusive evidence we cant be sure, we can only make assumptions, and gather as much evidence either way.
